and then later on we do the follow to find out how many rows we have in result to computer page count for paging

.Count() 

after the above call the .Assignment_ID_Assignments_Mi6_Parent.Claim_Number.Operator is set back to " LIKE "

but it does not seem to do this on fields from the base object ie ".FileNumber"

IS this bug or by design?

Quick Objects v4.2 documentation is missing a section on System Requirements. Upcoming release of Quick Objects V5's documentation has been fixed. For v4.2 the minimum system requirements are below:

Windows Vista: You must turn off UAC or run the installer and Quick Objects Designer as an administrator.

.NET Framework 2.0 (Service Pack 1), 3.0 or 3.5.

NOTE: If you do not already have .NET 2.0 SP1 or later installed you will need to install it before installing Quick Objects. If you are using Visual Studio 2008 .NET 2.0 SP1 is already installed.

To run the included samples, you will need access to a SQL Server 2000 or a 2005 database server. If you are targeting Oracle, we have included the sample database script file for the Oracle server. Please create the sample database manually and change the connection string in the samples and the samples work with Oracle as well.

Topic: Designer crashes on opening readonly .qos files

Topic Description: Designer crashes when opening a readonly .qos file. I have the .qos file in source control and if I forget to check out and open the file designer crashes. I am not even trying to make any changes to the project and only want to generate the base classes.

For now I just check out and undo it after generating code.

Topic Description: When using the ASP.Net QO Data Source, and launching the configuration wizard, on the "Select" tab, recommend that the values in the "Choose a Class" drop-down list be alphabetized.

Topic: Quick Objects Designer crashed on load

Topic Description: Running Windows Vista, QO 3.5...it has been a while since I open QO Designer on my computer. Upon launching it today, it continually would crash after the splash screen appeared. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get much debugging information...just a standards Windows Vista AppCrash message with PID etc. Running an install/repair did not resolve the issue.

I did manage to fix it by uninstalling QO, removing QO data from Program Files and App Data locations (after backing up license files!), then re-installing it. After the re-install, although LicenseManager reported a successful download of license keys, QO Designer reported that the version had expired. I had to actually copy the *.lic files I had backed up previously into the "C:\Program Files\Akal Tech\Quick Objects V3\NET20\BIN" folder, and then the issues was resolved.

My issue may have been related to previously doing an upgrade from 3.3 to 3.5.

Topic: Incorrect documentation for LoggedInUser property

The documentation in v3.5 or previous versions states

"Useful for ASP.NET based applications as this property is this value is initialized from the Session variable UserID"

However this is not correct and instead of the "UserID" the default session variable name is "User". Also, there is an undocumented setting that allows you to override this name.

By specifying the above setting the LoggedInUser property will now be populated from Session["UserID"] rather than the default Session["User"] variable.

Note: This only applies when the library is being used in an ASP.NET applications.

Topic: items in ".List" collections are not strong typed

Topic Description: I am getting an "Assignments_collection" object back from the "Assignments" object's .List property after doing a find. This collection is then passed and I found as I did the collection's .Item that is was returning just a base business object. Shouldnt the template be able to create the code so that it returns an "Assignment" object ?

Topic: Better (any) error messages on failed insert

Topic Description: We ran into a situation today where we were insert data using the data objects and it was failing with no error message text being returned. The .Insert() command returned False, but the .ErrorString was not populated. I think it should return more inforamtion as to why it failed and did not insert.

We had an issue previously with GUID column and default value not being set so I checked that but that was fine. I was then kind of stuck, and was looking at the intellisense help for the .Insert command and saw in there that a PK must be set on a table. I checked the .PrimaryKeyFields collection and found count of 0. So that meant we had forgot to set a PK on the table. we did that and regenerated the code for the objects and then it worked fine.

Any way that the error string can be populated with some kind of message on an .Insert call failing that a PK needs to be set. Can even be just general message of common causes of the .Insert call not succeeding.

Topic: Timespamp column in SQL Server maps to DateTime by default

In Quick Objects designer by default a TimeStamp column is mapped to a DateTimeField but it should be mapped to byte[]. I changed the Data Type to BinaryField and didn't have any problem.

Its not a big deal but thought you should know.

Topic: Tutorial 8 in documentation doesn't show the sample code

Topic Description: Tutorial 8 (Joining, Sorting, Searching and Customizing the result set) doesn't show the sample code in the C# VB tabs. The problem is there on both online and local help file. Its not a big deal as the sample code is there in the sample projects but its handy to have the sample code in documentation.

Topic: Code Generation Error in VB.NET when a field is excluded.

Topic Description: A bug was reported today that the generated code did not to compile in VB.NET if a field was excluded (checked off in the Designer). The VB.NET template for generating base business classes has been fixed, the C# template did not have the issue.

The fixed VB.NET template is available here for download. You can replace the template that shipped with Quick Objects v3.5. The default location for the install is:

C:\Program Files\Akal Tech\Quick Objects V3\NET20\BIN\Templates

The next release will include this fix.

This is a bug and not by design. We use of LIKE for certain database collation issue. I have logged this as bug. We will investigate it and provide fix schedule.

You can IGNORE the following line from previous post:

as I just test and that field seems to get reset too...

Thomas thanks for the feedback, this had already been incorporated into the new release. In addition, the QO Data Source now displays the selected class's complete name as well.

The error message you saw is typical when the trial period has expired and QO is being run without proper licensing. I have removed the 3.3 licenses from your account as I think that probably caused the problem. Please follow the steps below so we can find the root cause.

Open the License Manager and Logic
Now you should only see 2 licenses and their Major Version should 3 and Minor Version should be 5.
Click Download

Now go to C:\Program Files\Akal Tech\Quick Objects V3\NET20\BIN and rename the .lic files (temporarily) and run the Designer.

If QO Designer still gives you an error please let me know, if it runs without a problem you can go to Help - > About menu and see if the Edition is "Professional".

Please post the results when you have a chance and we'll appropriately update/fix our licensing system for the next release.

It is possible modify the template. I modify template for C# and VB.net. To download click here and replace current template. We include this in next version.

If you use VB then u will need use the "Item" property of collection.

Hi Mike,

This is good suggestion and we add message in ErrorString when there is no primary key in table.

Also you can use ExceptionMode if you want catch any exception rather than Business Object catching for you if no PK no exception is fired.
